PHILIPSBURG:--- The Division for Educational Innovations in collaboration with Sifma St. Maarten and USONA is hosting a Conference on Early Childhood Development on October 9th – 11th, 2013.
The theme for the conference is the "Future of Early Childhood Education on St. Maarten".
This conference will host distinguished guests, panelists and speakers from the neighboring islands and from St. Maarten within or relating to the field of Early Childhood Education.
The opening ceremony of the conference will be held at the Sonesta Maho Beach Hotel and Casino on Wednesday October 9th, 2013, from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Guest speakers include Ms. Jacquelyn Morris from the Ministry of Education of St. Kitts, who will address the importance of using the High Scope curriculum in Day Care Centers and Pre-School, Ms. Marva Springer from Barbados who will speak on Parental Involvement and Ms. Tamara Salsbach from Curacao who will speak on the Rights of the Child as it relates to Early Childhood Education.
Thursday October 10th, 2013 is reserved for workshops from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. These sessions will be held at the Asha Stevens Hillside Christian School in Cay Hill. Topics to be covered include: The High Scope Curriculum, Parental Involvement and The Transition from Pre-School to Foundation Based Education in the Primary Schools.
On Friday, October 11th,, 2013 the closing of the event is scheduled to be at the Asha Stevens Hillside Christian School also with a Panel discussion from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Early registration will be held at Sifma in the Lion's Building in Sucker garden.
