Seventh-day Adventist Church has Bible Boom.

Recognizes teachers for Teachers Appreciation Day

PHILIPSBURG:--- St. Maarten Seventh-day Adventist churches are preparing for the Caribbean Union Bible Boom finals at the Sonesta Maho Convention Center. The weekend activities from Thursday October 3rd, 2013 – Saturday, October 5th, 2013 is under the theme "A Powerful Generation: Stewards of God's Grace".
This grand event will feature young people from various Caribbean island territories. The opening event on Thursday evening at 6:30pm will be a cultural ceremony and will be officially opened by Honourable Prime Minister, Sarah Wescot-Williams. A consecration service will be held on Friday evening at 6:30pm. At 10:30 am during the Sabbath Church Service, there will be a special acknowledgement for teachers, in recognition of World Teachers Day. All school teachers on the island are invited to attend this special service at 10:30am on October 5th. The Bible Boom Finals will commence later that afternoon at 3:30pm at the Maho Convention Center, the location for all activities during this weekend program.
"Bible Boom" is an event where the knowledge of young people ages 16-30 is tested, based on a certain assigned books of the Holy Bible. Preparation for this event is encouraged in all Seventh-day Adventist churches to promote reading and studying of God's word. For this Bible Boom, the participants have studied the bible books, Ephesians to Hebrews. They have won competitions within their local church, then within churches on their island level. Now they will compete on the union level. The Caribbean Union of SDA is made up of over 20 islands which grouped in several conferences or missions.
The nine competitors of the Bible Boom are Kevon Timothy James from the Guyana Conference; Bevon Douglas, South Caribbean Conference (Trinidad), Junior Noel, Tobago Mission, Jessica Mathurin, St. Lucia Mission, Shanise Hutchinson , St. Vincent and the Grenadines Mission, Shannon Leacock, East Caribbean Conference (Barbados), Tonya Parris, representing the Seventh-Day Adventist University of the Southern Caribbean, X-Saphair King, South Leeward Mission (Antigua), Semone Elizabeth Rey, North Caribbean Conference (St. Thomas).
The winner of this Bible Boom will go on to represent the Caribbean Union at the Inter-American Division Bible Boom finals.
The Seventh-day Adventist church is praying for the Bible Boom contestants and will support them this weekend as they attend the various activities. The public is invited to attend the events.
