PHILIPSBURG:--- The committee that was established to organize St. Maarten's Day activities outlined the program they are working on for St. Maarten's Day 2013 on Wednesday. Chairman of the committee Neville York said the theme this year is "Back in the Day". The committee members said that while they are working on their program they have not yet secured a budget for the St. Maarten's Day activities. They said that their intention is to submit their program by Friday this week in order to secure the budget for the activities. Persons that are interested in selling food or other merchandize on St. Maarten's Day have until Monday to submit their request for a booth or table in Festival Village. Forms can be obtained at the Government Administration Building.
Apart from the wreath laying ceremony and official speeches that will be held at the Festival Village, the committee put together a number of activities to highlight what St. Maarten was like 50 or more years ago compared to what it is today.
The intention is to have local drinks and food as well as the décor of the past for the day's events which will end early this year. Fabiana Arnell said that this year St. Maarten Day activities will close off at 9pm due to the fact that the following day is a working day.
