PHILIPSBURG:--- During their current quarterly monitoring visit, the progress committee paid an orientation visit to the Social Economic Council (SER) on Thursday, October 24. The progress committee plans of approach Sint Maarten was established by Royal Decree to monitor the post 10-10-10 improvements in certain designated areas such as the justice chain, the civil registry, VROMI and legal affairs, for which 'plans of approach' were drafted as part of the constitutional reform agreements. SER and progress committee exchanged information on their roles, objectives and achievements so far, while expressing the intention of continued future cooperation.
Although the high councils of state and the SER are not part of the progress committee's domain as such, the committee showed a high degree of interest in the buildup and role of the SER in the new constitutional framework. During the meeting progress committee chairman Bandell voiced his appreciation for the efforts of the SER, among the new institutions connected with the status of country within the Kingdom. In this context, members of the progress committee concurred with the importance of the SER receiving timely and relevant feedback from the recipients of their advice. SER chairman René Richardson from his part stressed the importance of efficiency and modern human resource management in executing the new country tasks that place a heavy burden on our civil service.
On a general note, the progress committee and the SER agreed on the enormous achievements made in the past three years, leading to a high degree of attainment in many areas of the so-called 'plans of approach' while at the same time openly facing the reality of challenges remaining in areas of competency building and strengthening of the institutional structure.
