Prime Minister to be Live on PJD2 Wednesday Starting at Five PM in Order to Inform Public on Electoral Reform.

PM: "The most important thing for a country is political stability"

PHILIPSBURG:--- The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams will be on PJD2 Radio with Wendell Moore this Wednesday in order to inform the public on Electoral Reform and the Formation and Establishment of an Electoral Council. The Prime Minister has consistently emphasized that there is a need to inform the public about electoral reform and they way elections and campaigns are conducted on St. Maarten. The Prime Minister has also called for an examination of the laws that allow for shifting allegiances within Parliament that can cause political instability for the country.

"The most important thing for a country is stability and that is the basis for why we need to examine our laws and the way we govern the country. For example the calling of snap elections will always throw a country in instability and that is what needs to be clearly understood. Our Parliament has also said that necessary steps should be taken to ensure a fair and balanced electoral system by changing the electoral law and issuing a code of conduct in terms of integrity and equality. I have responded to this motion by informing Parliament that many of these things are already regulated in our penal code. Coercing persons to vote is punishable by law and I have summed up and pointed out where these legislations can be found. I have sent this to Parliament on which I have not yet received a response and I have suggested that I also be invited to Parliament in order to elucidate. In addition to informing Parliament we should also inform the population. We need to inform people that these laws are in place and that we should indeed enforce them. We are growing as a society and we cannot allow these things to be tolerated anymore," emphasized the PM.

The Prime Minister will be live with Wendell Moore on PJD2 Radio this Wednesday from five to six.
