PHILIPSBURG:--- Leader of the National Alliance and Member of Parliament William Marlin for the first time this new year assured the people of St. Maarten on Sunday morning that the National Alliance is not going anywhere and they will be presenting a full slate for the 2014 Parliamentary Elections.
Marlin was being interviewed on the radio program "View Point" on Sunday morning when he was asked if he fears losing support now that the deputy leader of the party Frans Richardson formed his own political party as well as Lenny Priest who formed the One St. Maarten People's Party.
Marlin gave several examples of persons who left one party to form another party, most of whom he said did not last more than one term in office. Those persons include Gracita Arrindell who left the Democratic Party to form the PPA, Julian Rollocks, and the late Vance James.
Marlin said after the elections in 2010, several persons were very unhappy with how the government was formed leaving the party with the most seats out. Marlin further explained that he is of the opinion that the people of St. Maarten, namely the voters, have seen what transpired this past four years and had to accept three cabinets. He said while politicians shifted gears and some supporters may have moved because their relatives is running on another list, people must realize that over the past four years there are a number of new voters, younger people who have reached the age of 18 and the amount of non-nationals who were naturalized are now part of the voting population.
The host of View Point asked Marlin what he thought of the electronic items that were given out by the leader of the USP when he launched his party on December 22nd, 2013. Marlin made clear he was not there and does not know what transpired but based on what he heard there was a raffle held during the launching. He also urged the host to ask the USP leader that question whenever he is on the radio program.
