COLE BAY:--- Rotarian Claret Connor, Director Disaster Management, Rotary Club of Sint Maarten Sunrise, mobilized nine (9) friends, who wish to remain anonymous, to partner with Ramchand, from ACE Hardware Store, Cole Bay, and donated a generator with all additional parts together with a big outdoor tent with mounting walls and some other camping materials to the Mohican Scouts from Scouting Antiano Sint Maarten. Merlyn Schaminee, District Commissioner of Scouting Antiano and Chief Scout of the Mohicans and Dr. Virginia Asin, leader of the Mohicans were honored to receive the donation on behalf of the group.
With these generous gifts the scouts will now be able to arrange more frequent overnight camping events in the outdoors. One of the major requirements is to ensure scout's safety. The safety lights around the camp area will now contribute to ensuring safety.
The generator was immediately put to good use during the weekend of 21 – 23 February 2014. The MohIcan Scouts had a Baden Powel Camp (BP-camp) together with scouts from Marigot, French side. More than 40 scouts with leaders celebrated the birthday of Lord Robert Baden Powel the Founder of the Boy Scouts, circa 1907. Scouting Antiano Sint Maarten was established in 1994 and is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
