GREAT BAY:--- In an effort to provide clinical and practical skills in the pre-hospital emergency care setting for volunteers of the Windward Islands Emergency Medical Services Foundation (WIEMS), the Ambulance Department recently embarked on an on the job training orientation for members of WIEMS. This is in keeping with the cooperation agreement between WIEMS and the Ambulance Department that was signed late last year with the Minister of Public Health, Social Development & Labor.
The WIEMS organization forms part of the disaster management structure of Emergency Support Function (ESF) 6 for Medical Relief & Public Health and plays a supporting role in emergency medical response activities in the event of any possible disaster.
The on the job training is in keeping with the Minister of Public Health's focus of putting people first by enabling members of this volunteer organization the opportunity to get better acquainted with the actual operations and to gain hands on skills during their orientation at the Ambulance Department.
The on the job training rotations will take part primarily in the weekends when volunteers are available.
