CUL DE SAC:--- Patrons attending the annual Bingo at St. Maarten Academy this Saturday can expect to walk away with great prizes, including two airline tickets, appliances, jewellery, and several weekend stays at some of the island's top resorts.
According to the school's Parent Teachers' Foundation (PTF), which is hosting the event this Saturday (June 21), the Bingo is a means of raising funds in support of the school's extra- and co-curricular activities.
"The mission is also to create a stronger bond between the parents and the school, as well as between the school and its students, and by extension, the community," says PTF president Elroy Hughes.
He explained that just this year the PTF used some of the funds from the last bingo to purchase projectors, projector screens, laptops, speakers, digital cameras, printers and other materials for several of the departments within the school. That purchase enabled more tech-savvy classrooms.
Each year, the PTF also awards top performing students currently in school, as well as graduates who have made the Honour Roll for each consecutive year prior to writing their Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations. This year, the top performers at each level received a Kindle Fire HD.
The PTF is encouraging all bingo players to come out and enjoy a night of fun, food, and drinks. Tickets will be on sale at the gate and cost $10.
