Calls on motorists to be on alert
PHILIPSBURG:--- As school reopens for the 2014 – 2015 academic year, the National Alliance NA is calling on parents, students, teachers and everyone connected to the education system to work together to build a solid future for St. Maarten by moulding our children with a solid education.
In the party's back to school message on Sunday Leader of the National Alliance William Marlin and Deputy Leader and former Minister of Education Silveria Jacobs, both educators by training and former teachers and school principal/manager , said that it is primarily through education that country St. Maarten will have a brighter future and move forward in the right direction.
Marlin, who was instrumental in the introduction of compulsory education in St. Maarten as well as the construction of a number of schools, said an educated nation is a strong nation.
Marlin called on students and teachers to work towards building on their accomplishments of the last school years and work towards achieving their personal best and exceeding expectations.
"With the introduction of compulsory education in St. Maarten, there is no excuse for any child to be out of school. Education is one of the key instruments for our nation to move forward in the right direction," William Marlin said in the back to school message.
Marlin called on motorists to be on alert as the roadways will be busy with hundreds of students and teachers using the roads to traverse to and from school and school related activities. "Pay keen attention when using the roads especially in school zones as many students will be traversing the roadways."
The leader of the NA also emphasized the important role parents should play in their child's lives. He urged parents to continue to support and be there for their children.
"Your involvement in your child's life and school means a lot not just for the child, but also plays a significant role in the success of children along their educational journey," William Marlin said.
"The National Alliance would like to wish students, teachers, all school staff, school bus drivers and everyone connected to the school system a productive and successful school year 2014- 2015 and urges everyone to remain focused for the proper moulding of our future," William Marlin said.
