PHILIPSBURG:--- The National Alliance (NA) has extended its heartfelt thanks to the electorate and party supporters for peaceful exercising their democratic right to vote and for their confidence in the party and says now that elections are over; the time has come to work in the best interest of the people of St. Maarten.
Leader of the National Alliance (NA) Member of Parliament William Marlin said St. Maarten continues to be a blessed nation in which its people can participate in elections and exercise their democratic right in a calm, cordial and incident free manner. He commended the electorate for their exemplary behavior during elections, which he says continues to set St. Maarten apart from many other destinations.
He said NA intends to play its role, in collaboration with its coalition partners, to deliver on the promises made in the run up to elections. "On behalf of the entire National Alliance family and all candidates, we would like to thank St. Maarten in general and the voting populace for peacefully participating in the parliamentary elections and for expressing their democratic right to vote. In particular we would like to thank all of the 4,024 persons who supported the party's 23 candidates for their vote of confidence in the National Alliance."
Marlin said with the polls now closed, the time is now ripe to focus on the people of this great country. "The elections are now over and the new government that the National Alliance will form an integral part of needs not look back. The campaigning is over and the promises we have made as individuals and as parties, we now need to put our common efforts together and work to move St. Maarten forward," Marlin said in a press release on Sunday.
"When we look at the things that we have said and the promises that we have made, we are not far apart. We have common ground in the areas of making sure that our young people are no longer looking in from the outside, but will participate meaningfully in the further developments of their country. We all believe that the cry from many of our people who continue to suffer will be something of the past."
Marlin said NA plans to work with its coalition partners and focus its efforts on working towards fixing the problems in education; putting the country's financial house in order; simplifying the tax system; upgrading the medical center and medical care for the nation's people and improving on the infrastructure and traffic circulation. Other issues of importance are lowering electricity bills for residents, securing affordable housing for seniors and reducing the overall cost of living and the realization of a state-of-the art Center for the Performing Arts and a cricket stadium that will benefit the development of sports and recreation and be a significant player in propelling St. Maarten as a premier sports tourism destination.
Marlin said the people of St. Maarten deserves kudos and can be assured that all efforts will now be focused on their best interest.
