PHILIPSBURG:--- On Thursday September 25th, 2014 at approximately 7:50am, two police patrols were sent to the Boardwalk to investigate a case where two men were busy skimming monies from the ATM machines. Arriving on the scene the investigating officers spoke to a security employee of the bank informing them what he had seen. He also explained that the suspects had fled the scene and which they direction they took. A description of the suspects was also given. During a search of the area the officers encountered the two suspects who were walking hastily on Front Street. These two men were arrested on the spot. The security officers confirmed that these suspects were the same two men that were busy skimming from the machines. Both suspects with initials N.D. (48) and A.Y. (35) from Bulgaria were taken to the Philipsburg Police Station for questioning by the Fraud Department.
Four arrested as suspects in armed robbery.
On Wednesday September 24th, 2014 at approximately 12:45pm, several police patrols were directed to Family Dream Supermarket located on the Well Road in Cole Bay to investigate an armed robbery which took place at that establishment shortly before. The report stated that a young man dressed completely in dark clothing with his face covered and brandishing a handgun stormed into the supermarket and while threatening the cashier forced her to handover the money. After committing this act the suspect fled on foot through the nearby streets. The investigating officers started a search in the area which led to a house on the Union Road. This house is well known to police, as a place where young men would sit under the trees to sell and use drugs. At that address four young men were sitting under the trees next to an old car. During a search of this vehicle several pieces of clothing and footwear matching the description of the clothing and footwear the suspect was wearing were found during the robbery. As the search continued a black revolver was found in the dashboard of the car. The clothing and weapon were confiscated for further investigation. All four suspects with initials J.L. (19), J.G (29), G.L.C (20) and J.R.S (23) were arrested in connection with this investigation and taken to the Philipsburg Police Station for questioning. The investigation into this case in ongoing.
Two arrested for drugs possession.
On Wednesday September 24th, 2014 at approximately 6:35pm, during a routine control in the Cape Bay area, a police patrol saw a silver colored Kia Picanto with license plate 9127AAA suspiciously driving through the area. The area is well known for the selling and dealing of drugs. The vehicle was stopped by the police and controlled. During a quick search of the occupants a plastic sack containing several grams of cocaine was found on the driver. The plastic sacks with drugs were confiscated for further investigation. The driver with the initials M.D. (21) and the passenger A.L.L.B (19) were arrested on the spot and taken to the Philipsburg Police Station for questioning.
Robbery suspect arrested.
On Tuesday September 23rd, 2014, a young man with initials G.O.R.B. (19) for whom a warrant for his arrest was issued, suspected of committing several robberies was arrested by police on the Sucker Garden road. The suspect did not resist during his arrest. He was taken to the Philipsburg Police Station where he remains in custody pending further investigation.
Cruise passenger almost drowns.
On Tuesday September 23rd, 2014, police patrols and paramedics were sent to the Boardwalk in the vicinity of Holland House where a passenger on board of the Norwegian Cruise Ship in port had become ill while swimming and almost drowned. The victim was brought ashore by persons who saw what was going on. On the scene the officers encountered the victim with initials J.J.C. (66) lying on his side and being assisted by a registered nurse and a fire fighter from the U.S.A. Shortly after the paramedics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to the Sint Maarten Medical Center where he was treated and admitted for observation. The cruise representatives on the island are taking care of the victim and his wife. When the victim is dismissed from the hospital they will decide if they will rejoin the cruise or fly back home.
Man seriously wounded by unknown persons with a machete.
On Tuesday September 23rd, 2014, at approximately 10:35pm, a police patrol was sent in the vicinity of the Rouge Et Noir casino where a man had arrived and was bleeding profusely from several large wounds to his head and face. On the scene the police and Detectives learnt that the attack took place on the Boardwalk in the vicinity of Antoine restaurant. The victim, with initials O.W., works as a security guard for the restaurant at night that for unknown reasons was attacked by an unidentified person or persons. The victim was treated on the scene by paramedics and then transported to the Sint Maarten medical center for further treatment. The Forensic Department was on the scene to collect evidence. The investigating officers later learnt that the victim had lost an eye as a result of this attack. The victim remains in the ICU of the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further medical treatment. The Police Department is asking anyone who may have information that could shed some light on this investigation to call the tip line # 9300 or the police station at 54-22222.
