Tanks on Cole Bay Hill now Polluted with Bird Poop and Dust
PHILIPSBURG:--- Employees of GEBE emptied at least 12 of their water tanks the day before Hurricane Gonzalo hit the island. According to information SMN News received the employees deliberately emptied the tanks instead of filling them up to create more stability for the tanks during the high winds and to have reserved water in case the water supply goes down.
At least one of the green tanks on Cay Hill exploded on top due to the high pressure and is now catching water on top of the tank, along with "bird poop" and dust causing the tanks to be polluted.
Due the carelessness of GEBE several residents on Dutch St. Maarten are without water and electricity. Efforts made to reach management of GEBE about the water tanks that were emptied and are now damaged proved futile. Several residents on St. Maarten are furious because they are without water for the past three days. Some said that they are not able to clean their surroundings after the passing of Gonzalo.
