PSS announces opening of new Post Office outlet at Harbor facility.

shgcpss16102014PHILIPSBURG:--- Postal Services St. Maarten (PSS) N.V. will officially open its latest outlet at the A.C. Wathey Cruise & Cargo Facility, Friday, upcoming.

Public and Private sector dignitaries have been invited to take a much needed break from hurricane Gonzalo clean up, to join PSS N.V. Management and staff for the opening.

"The past two days have been very stressful for our island with a lot of damage to homes and properties and we hope that with our small, but significant opening Friday, we will help to keep some of that stress down," said Post Office Interim Director, Ms. Antonia Wilson, on behalf of PSS N.V.

She said the opening is very important for PSS N.V. on several fronts.

"It gives us a prominent connection with close to two million cruise ship passengers who arrive at the Harbour each year looking for little souvenirs and memories of their visit," said Ms. Wilson.

She explained that these visitors will be able to visit the post office to buy post cards, stamps and other Post Office services including postage of parcels and letters that cannot be sent from their ship.

"One of the features of the service will be the sale of personal stamps where visitors will be able to have their pictures taken and have that picture incorporated into an official stamp that they can post to family and friends to keep them up to date with their travels," said Ms. Wilson further.

She said other benefit of the new location is the new business relationships that PSS N.V. is developing with its sister company, St. Maarten Harbour Group of Companies.

"We would like to thank the Habour Group for assisting us in establishing our new Post Office outlet at their cruise & Cargo facility, showing that government-owned companies can work closely together for mutual advantage and for the benefit of visitors and residents on St. Maarten," said Ms. Wilson.

She said the new outlet enjoys a prominent vantage point on the Harbor grounds where it will be passed by thousands of tourists every day.

One member of staff, will be manning the Harbour Post Office, and he says he has been sharpening his photo-taking skills, since he expects the personal stamps sales to be very popular with cruise ship visitors.

The facility has been open in a low key fashion since July to test the market and will be officially opened Friday.
