EPIC hires new Environmental Educator.

laurabijnsdorp03112014PHILIPSBURG:--- Environmental Protection in the Caribbean (EPIC) has hired a new Environmental Educator to their team: Laura Bijnsdorp. Having recently moved back to the island, Bijnsdorp grew up volunteering for various environmental foundations on St. Maarten, including EPIC. She will be spearheading the foundation's educational program, combining her background in media and education together with her knowledge of the island's environment.

Since 2007 EPIC St. Maarten has worked with thousands of school children and numerous community groups by providing standardized Environmental and Natural Heritage Education classes, presentations and excursions for schools, community groups, church groups and other organizations free of cost. It has since become a sought after education program on the island.

EPIC is dedicated to ensuring consistent environmental education continues by staffing the only full-time Environmental Educator for St. Maarten. The Prince Bernhard Cultural Fund Caribbean Region is funding the position for the initial six months.

The Foundation's Environmental Education program covers a wide-range of topics and includes classes on and excursions related to St. Maarten's forests, ocean pollution, the environmental challenges St. Maarten faces and the wildlife and ecology of St. Maarten's wetlands. Interactive presentations and educational games ensure that participants are active participants in learning valuable ecological lessons.

Schools that are interested in participating in the education program including the presentations and/or excursions can contact the foundation at This email address is being protected from spambots.
