PHILIPSBURG:--- On Tuesday January 6th at approximately 9:30am, a police bike patrol was sent to the Federal Receivers Office located on the Soauliga Road to intervene in a fight that was taking place. On the scene the officers spoke to the Security Officer who stated that he was attacked by a Chinese man who, according to the security guard tried to enter the line by standing next to a Chinese woman.
When the man was told that he had to stand at the back of the line an argument broke out between them. At one point during the argument the man pushed the security guard. The security guard defended himself by swinging a punch the man causing a fight to break out between them. The Chinese lady also got involved in the fight and jumped the security guard from behind.
The security guard was assisted by his colleague. During the fight the Chinese man suffered a cut above his right eye. He was treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken to the medical center for further treatment. All parties were taken to the police station and handed over to the Detectives for further investigation.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
The Police Department is informing the general public, that recently they have been experiencing major problems with the 911 emergency lines. Contact has been made with the telephone company who has been working very hard but at present has not yet located the problem. Nevertheless the telephone company will continue working on this situation to have these lines repaired and functional as soon as possible. In the meanwhile in case of emergency the public can use the telephone number 54-25479. The police can also be reached at the regular telephone number which 54-22222.
