PHILIPSBURG:--- Of the eight registered political parties only three of them submitted their donation registers before February 1st as is stipulated in the National Ordinance registration and finances of political parties. These political parties are the Citizens for Positive Change, the United People's Party and the Social Reform Party. After the deadline, the National Alliance and the United St. Maarten Party submitted their donation registers to the Electoral Council. The three parties which have not yet submitted their donation registers to the Electoral Council are urgently requested to do so in order to avoid measures being taken against them as is laid down in Article 44 of the aforementioned National Ordinance .
After reviewing the donation registers of all 90 candidates who contested the last parliamentary elections, the Electoral Council requested several candidates to provide the Electoral Council with supporting documents for clarification of their registers of donations. To date, a few candidates have neglected to do so within the allotted time frame. The Electoral Council urges the candidates who have not yet supplied the requested documents to the Electoral Council to do so before Friday, February 13th, 2015.
The Electoral Council would like to remind all persons concerned that violation of and non-adherence to the National Ordinance registration and finances of political parties will result in a penalty being imposed.
