COLE BAY:--- The St. Maarten Lions Club was glad to finally be able to present Windward Roads, winner of their 2014 Car Raffle, with a brand new Ford Eco Sport which arrived on the island a week earlier. Windward Roads managing director, Jan-Henderik Boekaar, received the car keys from Lion Club Fundraising Committee member Oralie Boirard, in the presence of Lions Alphons Gumbs, Treasurer, and Christ'l Larmonie, Secretary. Boekaar was very pleased to be presented with the grand prize, specifically because it offered the opportunity to the company, who regularly gives back to the community, to donate the car to the White and Yellow Cross Foundation. Mrs. Bregje Boetekees, operations manager, and the rest of the staff of the White & Yellow Cross Foundation jumped for joy when they heard of the car that was being donated to them. The Foundation is in desperate need of another car, she says, because the nurses need to be able to go on the road without having to wait on cars to return. She ensured all present that the car would be on the road providing service to the White & Yellow Cross clients 24/7. Proceeds of the Lions Club car raffle sales will go to funding community service projects. Both Windward Roads and Mrs. Bregje Boetekees have vowed to continue buying car raffle tickets in support of the St. Maarten Lions Club in the future.
