PHILIPSBURG:--- The hit and run driver who hit down Ramesh Manek early Thursday morning on the Airport Road surrendered to police around 9pm Thursday night. Police also confiscated the black Hummer bearing the number plate P-1819 that ran over the local resident who was jogging on the road earlyThursday morning.
Police Spokesman Ricardo Henson confirmed that the driver who was involved in the hit and run accident surrendered to police and his vehicle has been confiscated. Henson said the driver of the vehicle that hit the victim down causing him to lose his life is in his 30's. The police spokesman refused to release the identity of the suspect and his vehicle number plate.
SMN News understands that the driver who was driving at very high speed at the time of the accident did stop after hitting the victim down but then decided to drive away to his destination. SMN News learnt that the driver who is now in police custody for the death of Ramesh Manek is the son of "Cohen" owner of Platinum Night Club.
In an invited comment Press Prosecutor Tineke Kamps gave anupdate on the hit and run accident which reads:-
SUSPECT IN FATAL HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT TURNS HIMSELF IN
The actual suspect in the "hit and run" traffic incident which took place on Thursday April 16th 2015 between 6.30 a.m. and 7.00 a.m. on the Airport Boulevard, leaving the victim dead on the side of the road has turned himself in.
The 32 year old male suspect was immediately arrested and taken into custody.
His vehicle, which is also a black HUMMER and clearly has damage to the front, was confiscated for further investigation.
The former suspect in this case has been released and his vehicle returned. He is no longer a suspect.
The initials of the suspect is K.C.
At this stage the investigation is pending and continuing busy. The suspect is in pre-trial detention now. Because he is still being interviewed/questioned I cannot give you any more information (including the exact suspicion).
