PHILIPABURG:--- Several control unit officers have been go slow, since the shooting that led to the death of bike patrol Gamali Benjamin. SMN News learnt that the control unit officers have been making their concerns known for quite some time now but so far nothing has been done.
According to the information SMN News received is that the control unit is not getting the back-up and support they need from the police department to conduct controls. It is further understood that the bike patrols were supposed to assist the control unit during the early morning hours when they are directing traffic but that never happened. Further, to that members of the control unit are not allowed to walk with type of defense weapons therefore they must get police assistance which according to some members of the control unit is not forthcoming.
SMN News learnt that since the shooting that took place last week Wednesday leaving Officer Gamali Benjamin dead, the control unit team have decided that they will not be working on the street or conducting controls anymore especially now that they see an armed officer of the law was murdered by bandits during high day.
According to reliable information reaching SMN News even the taxi dispatchers are now reluctant to do their jobs because some time ago some boys were shooting guns at the A.C. Wathey Cruise Facility and when the police were informed they told the government department head that if they needed police assistance to deal with the persons shooting on the A. C Wathey Cruise Facility they need to put their concerns and or complaint in writing to KPSM.
Several phone calls made to police spokesman Ricardo Henson and Acting Chief Commissioner of Police Carl John for an official comment went unanswered on Sunday and Monday.
