Civil Servant sent home while Independent MPs/Politicians placing retired people in the Executive Branch to enrich themselves.
PHILIPSBURG: --- Just last week the government of St. Maarten along with the Parliament of St. Maarten decided to send home a civil servant who just turned 60. The civil servant worked for the government of St. Maarten for some 42 years. This civil particular civil servant has served under various commissioners when St. Maarten was an island territory and Ministers since the country obtained its status in 2010. Even though the CFT in its recent advice to government said that St. Maarten has to take the necessary measures and extend the pension age to 62 even though its three years less than the Kingdom, the parliament of St. Maarten have decided to ignore the most recent advice of the CFT and sent home a civil servant who is supposed to be working for the next two years. The CFT also sent a letter to the Kingdom informing them that St. Maarten must be given specific instructions as to how they should regulate the debts they have with SZV and APS, yet this did not come to the minds of the person managing the affairs of the Parliament of St. Maarten who have certain Independent Members of Parliament controlling the functioning of Parliament. Yet the very Independent Members that are insisting that certain civil servants be victimized are the ones that are bringing in their relatives that are on pension to take up seats in the executive branch of government in order to enrich themselves and relatives.
Currently the two Ministries that still has to be filled will be filled by two pensioners, namely Ernest Sams a former purchasing officer of GEBE and Raphael Boasman the former policy advisor and acting labor mediator who already secured huge contracts with the BES islands to be their labor mediator. Yet civil servants that are healthy and has a right to be on the job based on what the government of St. Maarten said they will do by extending the pension age are sent home even though they have mortgages and other expenses. These very civil servants that are locals have their children who cannot obtain a job on St. Maarten yet others who already have jobs are able to leave their jobs or go on leave of absence and be placed in positions in the executive branch so they could work in the interest of these parliamentarians. The recent development with the civil servant are being ignored by other Members of Parliament and Government because somehow this is serving their purpose by victimizing workers.
