PHILIPSBURG:---- On Sept. 25th and 26th a conference will be held for medical professionals on Elderly Care.
The conference is organized by a collaboration platform of the Ministry, Health Care institutions, the AUC and the NASKHO. It will be hosted by the AUC in Cupecoy.
Life expectation has increased considerably also over the past 25 yrs. In a few years almost 25 percent of the population will be 60 years or older.
This age category is characterized by a higher rate of chronic diseases with complications and often not limited to just one disease.
These diseases determine the quality of life at an elderly age for a great part.
- How can we reach an elderly age healthy and fit? What is needed to accomplish this? How can we influence this?
- What does the elderly person prefer? As long as possible at home, but how?
- Are we prepared on Sint Maarten for this ever growing group of citizens with its own health and social care demands?
- Is the current health care system accessible to the elderly and sufficient?
- How is the care for the elderly organized? Is it well synchronized and coordinated?
- Is there collaboration between the first, second and third line of care?
- How do the surrounding and regional countries deal with this matter? How can we learn from them?
These are all questions that we are looking to provide answers for during the conference. There will be speakers from abroad as well as from Sint Maarten.
The conference is funded through sponsoring and we would like to express our gratitude to the AUC, Sint Maarten Laboratory Services, Rotary Sint Maarten, The Guardian Group, Sint Maarten Medical Center, White Yellow Cross Foundation, Roche and the Pharmacy Association Sint Maarten.
The collaboration platform its ultimate goal is to organize three accredited conferences every year on Sint Maarten. Medical professionals will be able to obtain CME credits locally this way.
