PHILIPSBURG:---- The last activity for the month of September of the “SXM Reads” initiative will be “Reading and Learning in the Park”. This event will be held on Saturday, September 26th, 2015 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Emilio Wilson Park. This will be a fun-filled day with various activities, such as: storytelling, decorating cupcakes, creating musical instruments and much more.
The Philipsburg Jubilee Library, in collaboration with the Community Outreach Mentorship & Empowerment International Center (COME), the Rotaract Club of St. Maarten Sunrise, the Rotary Club St. Martin Sunrise, and Sint Maarten National Commission for UNESCO, embarked on a Literacy Awareness Campaign called “SXM Reads”. Evident by the motto “Building a Strong Literate Community,” the aim of SXM Reads is to promote literacy; and by promoting literacy SXM Reads will transform the lives of many. The aim of this campaign is not only to raise awareness in the community, but also to bring forward concerns regarding illiteracy on the island.
The newest literacy event sets out to promote literacy, as well as offering a fun day outing for the entire family. All are welcome to attend the “Reading and Learning in the Park” activity this Saturday at the Emilio Wilson Park.
