PHILIPSBURG:--- For Dominicans living in Anguilla, the 27th of August will forever be remembered as the date that 31 countrymen’s lives were lost when Tropical Storm Erika rolled over their native country. In an effort to help, they quickly formed the “Nature Island Club Anguilla” which to date has sent one container of dry goods and medical supplies to Dominica. A second container is being prepared to ship and in order to speed up that process, the Nature Island Club is doing a fundraiser this Saturday at the James Ronald Webster Park in the Valley. The “To Dominica with Love” benefit concert will include musical performances by True Intentions, Omari Banks, Bookie and the Crew, Omalie 360, Nadica, Gershwin Lake, Bankie Banx and many more.
Darius James of popular Reggae Band True Intentions was too young to remember the devastation that Hurricane David caused Dominica in 1979, the year he was born. For him and his fellow band members Dennis Warrington and Jonathon Warrington, also originally from Dominica, Tropical Storm Erika has instead become the most deadly natural disaster to ever impact their country.
True Intentions is now coming together with some of the other musical talent of Anguilla and St. Maarten in order to raise funds for people of Dominica. Concert goers can expect food, drinks and kids entertainment in addition to the live performances. The entrance fee is $20 for adults and $10 for children and all proceeds will go to providing food and medical supplies to those in need in Dominica. Entertainment will start at 2 PM and organizers believe the party will go on well into the wee hours of the night. Sponsors include Lime Anguilla and Blue Water Rum.
