PHILIPSBURG:--- The SXM Hospitality Educational Institute (SXMHEI) is offering Hospitality Management Certificate courses through its further education (FE) certificate program starting October 20, 2015.
“Hospitality is a key driver in St. Maarten,” said Yeung, SXMHEI’s executive director, whose professional background includes hospitality education and instruction as well as management in the tourism industry. Yeung is the former Dean of Academics, Hospitality Division Head and veteran instructor at the University of St. Martin. He holds a Bachelor degree in Hotel &Tourism Management and a Masters degree in Hospitality Management from Florida International University (FIU) and in 2013 he became St. Maarten’s first AHLEI Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE).
Students who enrol in these courses will benefit from strong local industry support for and participation in class. Professionals are invited to make classroom presentations, mentor students. Participants will earn an academic course certificate of completion from SXMHEI as well as an EI certificate. The program is targeted primarily to supervisors and professionals who are in hospitality, hospitality marketing, management and the service industry in general.
The hospitality industry in St. Maarten continues to grow and with that, according to Yeung, there is a definite need for a dedicated and focused approach to hospitality education and training which will provide St. Maarten’s professionals with a wide range of career pathways that are available in the tourism industry. This focused approach, said Yeung, is being provided through the respective courses in the Hospitality Management Certificate program at the SXM Hospitality Educational Institute-SXMHEI an institute totally dedicated to specifically Hospitality & Tourism education and training.
