MULLET BAY:--- Howard Hobgood was able to continue his good form that he showed during the Eastern Caribbean Golf Association Tournament 2 weeks ago, by shooting a round of even par 70, to win the Overall Low Gross prize during the October Medal Play Tournament. Sam Bashir won Overall Low Net with a score of 64 after deduction of his 15 handicap.
A nice group of 27 golfers challenged the heat during this monthly 18 hole tournament that was organized by the SMGA. It was the 1st round qualification opportunity to make the 2016 St. Maarten Team that will participate in next year’s ECGA Tournament.
Hobgood who choose for the new qualification year to change from the Men’s category to the Seniors category for players older than 50 years, won next to the Overall Low Gross also the 1st Low Gross in the this category. Sam Bashir who also played in the Seniors category won 1st Low Net.
In the Men’s category there were 10 players competing for top honors. Eventually a match of cards was needed between Jesus Rivera and the very talented 13 year old Pierre Garcia. Both had a score off 77 Low Gross, after which it was determined that Rivera had won. In the same category Jan Peter Holtland won 1st Low Net with a score of 70 strokes after deduction of his 26 handicap.
In the Super Seniors Category for players over 60 years old, 1st Low Gross was won by Steven Mix with a score of 78, 1st Low Net was won by Francois Anton with a score of 72 after deduction of his 18 handicap. From the same category came another winner, Buzz Adamski won the prize for lowest putts, needing only 27 putts during the 18 holes stretch.
The Ladies Category had a total of 6 participants this time. 1st Low Gross was won by Sidsel Jacobsen with a score of 83 strokes, 1st Low Net was won by Odile Mezière with a Low Net score of 71 strokes.
