CAYHILL:---- Positive Foundation presented 2000 copies of a booklet “Your guide to overcoming side effects of radiation and chemotherapy” to the St. Maarten Medical Center.
The booklet gives helpful guidelines on managing the most common side effects that one may experience when undergoing radiation and/or chemotherapy treatment. The information is very helpful, because while the medical doctor prescribes a treatment plan, the patient has to understand the best ways he or she can cope with the treatment. Patient experiences may defer and the booklet gives several suggestions to deal with possible side effects.
Positive Foundation collaborated with Samenwerkende Fondsen Caribisch deel van het Koninkrijk who provided the funding for the research and development for the content of the booklet by a local professional nursing and consultancy company called "Care for You N.V."
The printing and other related costs for the booklets were sponsored by SMMC and Sun Insurance Brokers and are available at the oncology department for patients who will be receiving radiation and/or chemotherapy treatments. Anyone interested in receiving a copy can make a visit to the outpatient department and request a copy.
Persons can also receive a free copy of the booklet at the workshop “Coping with the side effects of radiation and chemotherapy” organized by Positive Foundation, Friday October 23, 2015 at the Philipsburg Jubilee Library beginning at 6:30pm.
