PHILIPSBURG: --- Minister of Labor, Health and Social Welfare Emil Lee told reporters on Wednesday that he travelled to Cuba last week at his own expense where he met with health care officials to discuss and see what type of services Cuba offers that St. Maarten could benefit from at a lower cost. The Health Minister said that the discussions he held are in its early stages but assured that there is a lot that Cuba offers that St. Maarten could benefit from, some of which he said includes trainings, and educational programs. Minister Lee said that he asked various questions such as languages spoken in Cuba, internet for patients travelling abroad for medical treatment, proper and modern technology. He said that all the doctors he met with spoke English along with other languages, the equipment’s’ are modern, while Cuba is working on providing better internet services in its health care facilities. He did say that the buildings are a bit older but for him the US also have older buildings yet they provide proper care. Minister Lee further explained that at some point he will include officials of SZV in the discussions while he already held a tripartite meeting in order to share information with all stakeholders.
