PHILIPSBURG:--- Two men were arrested on Thursday December 10th at approximately 10.20 a.m. for the illegal possession of a fire-arm and drugs. The arrests took place on the Walter Nisbet road in the vicinity of the John Larmonie Center where the police was having a general control. The suspects were stopped while they were driving in a silver colored jeep. During the control the officers smelled a very strong scent of burning marihuana coming from the inside of the vehicle. Both occupants of the vehicle started behaving quite suspicious. The officers continued with a search of the vehicle at which time they found a pistol under the drivers’ seat. This fire-arm was immediately confiscated and both suspects with initials J.A.W. (26) and A.J.M. (24) arrested on the spot.
During a search of the suspects two small plastic bags containing an amount of marihuana was found and also confiscated for further investigation. As the investigation continued a search of the vehicle belonging to A.J.M. was also searched. During this search a white cotton bag in which a plastic bag containing 42 smaller plastics bags containing “hashish”. The plastic bag and contents were also confiscated for further investigation. Both suspects remain in custody for further investigation.
