PHILIPSBURG:--- The SXM DOET Project Team hosted a successful, well-attended, Holiday Kick-Off Party at Divi Little Bay Beach Hotel last week Wednesday. All were invited to hear about what SXM DOET could mean for them, as a volunteer, as an organization, or as a business. The event was meant for persons to mingle, to get to know other organizations as well as form collaborative efforts, get ideas on what types of projects they would like/need to set up, to brainstorm on how to recruit volunteers and how to best organize their projects, and to enjoy the festive spirit of the Holidays.
The WWW.SXMDOET.COM website is now open for organizations to sign up their projects, and volunteers can sign up to participate in any of the projects as well. Funding requests for projects must be submitted by January 22nd, with SXM DOET falling on March 11th and 12th, 2016.
The entrance fee to attend was a donation of a non-perishable good (i.e. food, toys, educational materials, clothing, toiletries, etc.). Based on a the types of donations received, an NGO would be selected to ensure that the donations found their way to the right designee. With 176 food items being donated, the White and Yellow Cross was selected due to their need for items to fill their Food Pantry. The Food Pantry is a project that was initiated to help identified families in need. The food items come as a donation from the personnel of the White and Yellow Cross on a monthly basis, another way for them to give back to the community. They momentarily help 16 families in need. The donation came as a welcomed surprise.
If persons are interested in donating to the Food Pantry as well, feel free to contact the White and Yellow Cross Foundation directly, they are always in need of all types of goods; from hygiene products, to food items. The donations to families in need will be delivered on Friday morning, anyone willing to donate can still do so until 9am on Friday morning.
