Met with Supervisory Board of PJAIE --- still no information on Labega suspension.
PHILIPSBURG:--- Minister of TEATT Ingrid Arrindell told reporters on Wednesday that these past weeks she was busy getting herself acquainted with the various government owned companies that falls under her Ministry while ensuring that the law that was put in place to collect taxes from casinos are being applied. Minister Arrindell said the casino taxes will be based on the amount of open doors casinos have. She said now that the Landsbesluit is in place she already instructed the tax department to start collecting taxes from the various casinos on the island.
The Minister of TEATT also indicated that she met with the supervisory board of the Princess Juliana International Airport where she was given a presentation. However, she is still awaiting documents and further information on the suspension of PJIAE Managing Director Regina Labega, while she also awaits the outcome of the appeal Labega filed against the screening process conducted by VDSM.
Asked if she was updated on the current status of the department of civil aviation and the fire department, the Minister said she was given a full run down and has already spoken to the Minister of Finance about much needed funds to upgrade these departments to meet international standards.
Minister Arrindell said she also worked on getting the St. Maarten Tourist Association activated and they are now trying to recruit a director for the STA.
The Minister called on everyone both in the public and private sector to do everything possible to further develop St. Maarten since she believes the country deserves better.
