Philipsburg:---National Alliance councilman George Pantophlet says that the Democratic Party led government was saved by the bell (Louie Laveist) and averted an embarrassing situation when they almost had no quorum for the Budget meeting of 2009. The meeting which was supposed to have started at 9:00 am was adjourned for 30 minutes until 9:30 am in accordance with the rules of order because there was no quorum. Some might be asking why the members of the faction of the National alliance did not sign in for the meeting to start. But the national Alliance had to again expose the fact to people of St. Maarten that the Democratic Party led government and the Independent island councilmember/non active commissioner Louie Laveist are still at odds regarding whether he should resign or not from the island and executive council. The Democratic Party led government is saying constantly that Louie Laveist will resign soon. Probably the deal is not as air tight as some might think or his resignation might come as a Christmas gift. Mr. Louie Laveist is wielding his power. It was not until 9:27 a.m 3 minutes before the cancellation of the meeting and frantic calls from members of the executive council to Mr.Laveist that he walked in and signed the register saving the day by giving them a quorum for the meeting to start. It is quite obvious who has the real power.
