PHILIPSBURG:---- With December 5th marking International Volunteer Day, the SXM DOET Project Management Team would like to take the opportunity to recognize the efforts of the many volunteers that contribute to society as a whole.
SXM DOET, the local edition of the largest volunteer initiative in the Dutch Kingdom, having gathered over 1.000 volunteers on a yearly basis, and striving for even more in 2017, would not be possible without such selfless and caring persons.
Volunteerism has always been a very important part of our society and has brought many positive endeavors to life on Sint Maarten. Many persons give selflessly on a regular basis, making for a stronger and more generous society. With the holidays coming up, and a lot of the negativity that has been going around, it is good to look around and recognize the good that has brought our society together and has created a better place for our youth, less fortunate, elderly, teen moms, differently-abled, stray animals, and many many more. Without such great people, people who are dedicated and prove that no effort is too small, many would have been left in the dark with nowhere to turn. There is however still is a lot that can be achieved, but the SXM DOET Team is positive that through cooperation, caring and small selfless acts, Sint Maarten as a society can achieve a whole lot more.
Therefore, a large thank you to all volunteers that have not just contributed to the SXM DOET success, but to every organization, and initiative, large or small, that has tried to make a difference on Sint Maarten. This day is especially dedicated to you.
If you are interested in volunteering, get to know your local NGOs and find out which suits your interest and / or skill most. SXM DOET 2017 will take place on March 10th and 11th and will also be the opportune moment for persons to find out more about particular organizations and what greatness volunteering can bring.
