More Movement for the Elderly on Wednesday with Dance and Info Session on Parkinson’s.

GREAT BAY (DCOMM):---  More Movement for the Elderly, will take place on Wednesday, May 17 with a dance/information session about Parkinson’s disease.

Senior citizens are invited to the John Larmonie Center, Longwall Road, Philipsburg, for More Movement for the Elderly Fitness at the National Institute of the Arts (NIA) who is coordinating the dance session.

The Parkinson’s Café/Anja Bronius information/dance session will be from 11.00am to 12.30pm on the topic ‘Parkinson and Speech Therapy. Right after the Café, there will be Parkinson’s and Dance until 1.00pm.

To stay healthy or to improve health, older adults need to do two types of physical activity each week: dance, aerobic and muscle-strengthening activity.

Older adults aged 60 or older, who are generally fit and have no health conditions that limit their mobility, should try to be active daily.

The More Movement for the Elderly is a one-year campaign organized and coordinated by Collective Prevention Services (CPS), a department of the Sint Maarten Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour, with the participation of the following stakeholders: White and Yellow Cross Care Foundation (WYCCF), Windward Islands Physical Therapist Association (WIPTA), I&I Fitness, NIA and School for Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning (SCELL) of the University of St. Martin (USM).
