MARIGOT:--- On Tuesday, August 1st, 2017, the Collectivity will start the 3rd and final phase of the rehab works at the Jean-Louis Vanterpool stadium. During this time, the intersection of Rue de Holland and the intersection of Paul Mingau Street will be closed to vehicle traffic. The deviation will be via Rue de Concordia.
The objective is to move back the wall to widen the sidewalk for the safety of pedestrians. Work will be completed August 31, 2017, before the opening of the new school year.
The Collectivity apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
The return to the four-day school week, implemented by the Education Department and officially validated by the Executive Council on Wednesday, July 26, will be implemented as of September 2017 in the schools of Saint Martin.
School hours will now be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 am to 11.30 am and from 1:30 pm to 4 pm
This return of the four-day week is accompanied by an increase in the number of extracurricular activities and supervision, in line with the commitments made by the new majority of the Collectivity.
With a contribution of 50 euros per child for the school year 2017-2018, the partnership set up with the CTOS of Saint-Martin, which has increased the training of its animators, which will guarantee students a better experience.
Various games will be offered to the children every day of the week on their lunch break; homework help will be set up every evening from 4 pm to 5 pm. Finally, on Wednesday morning, from 8 am to 11.30 am, schoolchildren will benefit from a varied program of activities focusing on sports, culture, arts, and crafts or "book-based" actions designed to effectively combat illiteracy.
Just a little note, the Collectivity allocated two million euros this year towards the renovation of the schools and 1, 5 million euros will also be distributed to securing the schools of Saint-Martin.
The public library of Saint-Martin, specifically , the children’s Section, wishes to thank “ILE MARINE SHIPCHANDLER” for the donation of equipment for the “kiddies Corner”.

Note to users of the Galisbay-recycling waste

The 53rd meeting of the Caribbean Food Crops Society (CFCS) was held from Monday, July 17 to Friday, July 21, 2017, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, under the theme "The Caribbean, a research hub at Service of World Agriculture and Food Security ".
The meeting brought together scientists, researchers, agricultural and agro-industry professionals, and political and institutional representatives from the Caribbean. A delegation from the Collectivity and the Inter-professional Consular Chamber of Saint Martin (CCISM) led by the territorial councilor, Mrs. Sofia CARTI-CODRINGTON, had the privilege to attend this edition.
President Daniel Gibbs wished that a delegation from our island would be present at this agricultural meeting, to realize the stakes, whereas the candidacy of the Collectivity of Saint Martin was retained as organizer of the 54th Meeting of the CFCS in July 2018. This participation is part of the political approach of the majority, which wants to develop agriculture and create sustainable jobs in the agri-food sector. A strategic development plan will soon be drawn up to boost this sector of activity.
Thanks to the field visits organized in the North-West and South of the island on the topics of animal and plant genetic improvement and agro-processing, the Saint-Martin delegation was able to get an idea of the needs Of the Caribbean, to promote the theme of the next meeting on "the multifunctionality of agriculture in the small island territories of the Caribbean dedicated to the tourist economy".
On the sidelines of the official sessions of the 53rd meeting of the CFCS, workshops were initiated throughout the week between the members of the Saint Martin delegation and the partners on site, notably to prepare the 2018 edition. That after these working meetings, Maggy Gumbs was appointed representative of the francophone countries within the CFCS, and Mr. Dorvan Cocks was appointed president of the CFCS, during the period 2017/2018.
For the organization of the July 2018 meeting, the Collectivity will use the support of the European funds for financing, and local and regional know-how for the development of this agro-food meeting which brings together more than 250 participants on a yearly basis.
