St. Maarten Academy P.S.VE General Parents evening, A great success.

PHILIPSBURG:--- On August 29th2019, The Principal of St. Maarten Academy P.S.V.E, Mrs. Lavern Nelson and her staff, hosted their first general parent/guardian evening for the academic year 2019-2020. This meeting was a great success as many parents attended to hear of the new developments at the school and to meet their child’s mentors for the first time.
During the meeting, the theme “S.O.A.R”, which will be used for this school year and stands for Show integrity, Own your learning, Accept responsibly, Respect self and others were introduced to the parents. This was done to reinforce the idea that each child performance (soaring) is dependent on the involvement of the parents in every aspect of their child’s life. It has been proven at St. Maarten Academy P.S.V.E that a student performs better and excel in their schoolwork when their parents are totally involved in their education.
The Student Care department under the leadership of Mrs. Barbara Cocks E, also outlined some of the various student support services that are available to each student on campus. These services are student care’s academic services, the emotional /social support services, career advice and extra lessons for students to ensure their success and that no child is left behind. In addition, Ms. Barbara Cocks also promoted their exciting calendar of activities that are planned to motivate and engage each child for this school year. She also used that time to explain some of the rules and expectation of each child and parents for the year.
During the breakout sessions with mentors, parents/guardians registered their attendance, signed the agreement for the school’s rules and regulations, provided up-to-date information for the school’s web-based tracking system and developed a network among fellow parents.
Mrs. Michelle Richardson, the school’s librarian and coordinator of the Parent-Teacher Foundation (PTF) also introduced parents/guardians to become members of the school’s PTF.
Judging by the reaction of the parents, they were impressed and pleased with the information they received last night. Many of the parents were involved and engaged by asking many questions during the individual mentor break out season. This is exactly what we are looking for at St. Maarten Academy P.S.VE.
Mrs. Nelson concluded the evening by thanking all parents for attending the meeting and encouraging each parent to stay involved in their child’s life by contacting the mentors and the school on a regular basis.
The school plans an Open House on October 31st, 2019. The principal is inviting everyone to visit the school then or make use of it open door policy.
