PHILIPSBURG: --- The contract for the foreign Human Resource manager of USZV Sedley Lourens was renewed for another 3 years. Sedley Lourens is paid NAF34,000.00 monthly while he has a rental vehicle from USZV, paid housing by USZV on St. Maarten, gets an airline ticket every month to visit his family, all of the additional perks are not part of the salary Lourens negotiated with Director Glen Carty.
Lourens will be holding that position for 6 years while he is paid from USZV Curacao account to Lourens Curacao account to avoid paying taxes on St. Maarten.
Based on the initial contract Lourens was only supposed to be hired as a consultant for a period of 3 years. While USZV Director Glen Carty knows the details of the contract he did not recruit anyone for the position locally as rumors within USZV says that Carty is getting a kickback from Lourens. Besides that, all of this happens while Prime Minister Leona Romeo Marlin is holding the position of acting Minister of VSA.

ATS apartment rentals.

Besides the renewal of the HR manager contract, Carty is renting his apartments at Prima Vista to ATS, a clear conflict of interest, the apartments at Prima Vista are being rented for $2,500.00 monthly, semi-furnished. ATS is also renting a building that Carty owns at Tamarind Estate. ATS is also housed at USZV and uses all USZV vehicles to conduct controls.
Since Romeo Marlin took over the helm of USZV she has not done anything to curb the alleged corruption within the organization. Instead, Romeo Marlin has the same cabinet staff at the Ministry of VSA including the chief of the cabinet Jim Rosen who was the personal advisor to the former Minister of VSA Emil Lee.
Sources within the institution said that USZV Director Glen Carty is at loggerheads with the internal auditor Marvel Hoi because Carty has been interfering with Hoi’s financial auditing of the company especially when it comes to big businesses that owe the Social Insurance Company millions and managed to get a payment plan of NAF 300.00 monthly while Members of Parliament that are in arrears are being ripped apart to pay USZV its outstanding. Businesses such as Clean St. Maarten another company that is owned by the husband of a staff member of USZV.
Sources within USZV identified an employee of USZV Eurelyn Rombley whose husband owns WEC that owes SZV millions, but the inspectors and controllers chose not to go after the company. The employee in question is the one that is responsible for sending bailiffs to delinquent companies but thus far she has not sent any bailiff to her husband’s company all of which are known to Director Glen Carty and the internal auditor Marvel Hooi.
Months ago, SMN News wrote an article about the missing files that belong to large companies on the island. Those companies owed USZV over a $1M each and yet ATS are not visiting them because those companies are being protected by Carty. Staffers of USZV expressed concerns especially after they were being victimized and targeted as the ones leaking information to SMN News. Those staffers said that while certain politicians are bleeding the company, the director is busy drying out the AOV pension fund.

Phishing Scam still not addressed.

Earlier in the year, the Chief Financial Officer of USZV Elton Felisie gave orders to members of the staff to pay an invoice of $500.000.00 to Foodmate BV registered in New York. SMN News learned that to date USZV have not done anything to recover the money that was paid out to a phony company that has been labeled a phishing scam. It is alleged that the half a million dollars went to persons within USZV that are busy enriching themselves.
Recently, SMN News published an article about the adjunct director’s position that has to be filled, sources say while Sharine Daniel the former chair of USZV Supervisory Board scored the highest among local candidates, USZV Supervisory Board members and its director decided to put the appointment on hold
