Prime Minister Wescot-Williams attends St. Louis Fete --- Says it takes a village to defend our culture.

On Sunday the 22nd of May The Honorable Prime Minister of St. Maarten Sarah Wescot-Williams celebrated the St. Louis Fete with the residents of Rambaud and St. Louis. The Prime Minister attended the formal program on Sunday including a church service, speeches given by dignitaries of both St. Maarten and St. Martin and the releasing of pigeons. The Prime Minister, who has never missed the Fete in ten years, praised the determination of the people of the St. Louis/ Rambaud district. "Since the passing of YaYa, the initiator of this celebration, much of the event is held in her honor and the people of St. Louis, which has the traditional name of Freetown, have every year for the past 10 years celebrated this district's past and future. Traditional village life is steeped in the belief that we are our brothers' keepers, we cherish the wisdom of the elderly amongst us and place our hope for the future in the molding and nurturing of the younger generations. The old adage "it takes a village" is quite fitting in so many ways; to raise children, to solve disputes, to defend our culture etc", commented Prime Minister Wescot-Williams. The official part of the celebration was closed off by the release of the pigeons by the President of the Collectivité Alain Richardson and the Prime Minister.
