Member of Parliament and Faction Leader of the United St. Maarten Party (USP) Rolando Brison on Monday evening resigned from the USP.

rolandobrison02102019Brison informed party President Agnes Brooks and party leader Frans Richardson of his decision:

PHILIPSBURG:--- Member of Parliament Rolando Brison faction leader of the United St. Maarten Peoples Party (USP) has submitted his resignation to the party board and leader Member of Parliament Frans Richardson.
In a letter to the USP board and leader Brison states the following:

"I regret to inform you that I must tender my resignation from the United St. Maarten Party. I'm proud of what has been accomplished and I deeply appreciate the trust you've placed in me. It has been a privilege.

Though this is a very difficult decision and through no lack of effort by my person, I no longer see myself as a core factor in determining a clear direction for the USP, in line with my core values and ethical responsibilities.

With the confidence placed in me by the people of St. Maarten, I intend to move on to other opportunities which will hopefully allow me to continue to serve the public in the same manner as an MP.

So it is with great gratitude, and a little bit of sorrow, that I must resign from the party. I wish you, the membership and board of the USP good fortune and blessings.

“I would like the public to know that I fully intend to support the incoming government and continue doing what I love to do, serve the people of St. Maarten with effective work and action from Parliament. I will take the next few days to explore my options for the elections and update the public accordingly,” MP Brison said.

Brison and Richardson has been at odds for months now when the party leader openly criticized him on the floor of parliament when he presented the initiative law to sell St. Maarten’s share of UTS, while parties settle their disagreements then the gap widened as it alleged that while Brison was told he is going to be heading the USP list, he is totally left out of the day to day decisions of the political party that is contesting the January 2020 Parliamentary elections.
SMN News learned that Brison expressed concerns about the persons that are being sought to contest the January 2020 elections on the USP slate.
SMN News further learned that MP Rolando Brison is likely to head the United Peoples Party list for the upcoming elections, since he started his political career in the background of the UPP.
