Crocs donates shoes to SMMC workers on the front lines of COVID-19 fight.

crocs13072020PHILIPSBURG:--- Crocs, a part of The Boolchand Group, donated 50 pairs of shoes valued at $2,250 to the St.Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) on July 7, 2020, to support frontline workers for their efforts during the COVID-19 crisis.

Working alongside the Crocs Global Initiative, “Free Pair for Healthcare," St.Maarten was not missed in this opportunity to give back to our local healthcare heroes.

Crocs President and CEO Andrew Rees stated: "Like everyone, we've been closely monitoring the news and working hard to map out a way to most effectively help where we can. Over the past few weeks, we have spoken to healthcare workers, their facilities and even their family and friends, and they have specifically asked for our shoes in an effort to provide ease on their feet, as well as ease of mind as they need the ability to easily clean up before they go home to their families."

The SMMC opened its doors on March 17th, 1991, as the successor of St. Rose Hospital. SMMC is a non-profit organization that manages and carries out hospital functions serving the community of Dutch St Maarten in the north-eastern Caribbean

Shari de Riggs, SMMC’s Communications Officer said, “On behalf of SMMC, I would like to thank Crocs and The Boolchand Group for this thoughtful donation and kind gesture. Adequate footwear is important in our field, especially when dealing with infectious diseases and viruses. We also allocated pairs of Crocs to our team of environmental cleaners who support our COVID-19 team in the continuous cleaning and disinfecting of the entire hospital, keeping our staff and patients safe.”

SMMC is the island’s general hospital that guarantees quality hospital care based on patients' needs. They provide patient care services to St. Maarten and the surrounding islands.

“We are committed to helping our community in St.Maarten. We donated the shoes in an effort to provide comfort to medical workers' feet and help ease their mind on the front lines of the COVID-19 fight. As part of Boolchand’s, which has been here for 57 years, we have experienced a lot of the ups and downs on the island, so we know these are trying times for all and every little bit counts right now,” said Lavina Nandwani from Crocs & The Boolchand Group.
