PHILIPSBURG: --- GEBE was forced to close its IT Department on Wednesday due to the spread of COVID 19 as at least two staff members in that department were tested positive with the coronavirus. One is seriously ill and is in the Intensive Care Unit at SMMC. Prior to the closing of the IT Department, NV GEBE was forced to close its entire operations on last week Tuesday.
Prior to that, a cashier was infected while a member of the management board and a member of the supervisory board fell victim to the virus that is spreading on St. Maarten in the second wave. Due to the spread of the virus GEBE, one cashier is working at GEBE which is causing concern to the general public.
Employees of the Government-owned company are working on a tight schedule while the offices of NV GEBE have been fumigating its offices almost every day and on weekends.
As of August 5th, 2020, St. Maarten registered 80 positive cases of COVID-19 with 148 persons are being quarantined. So far since the start of COVID-19 on St. Maarten 853 have been tested.
