PHILIPSBURG:--- The Minister of Public Health, Social Development, and Labor, Omar Ottley extends his sympathy to the family and friends of Sint Maarten’s 43rd COVID-19 victim, who has passed away. May peace be with the family during this difficult time.
As of August 23rd, there were seventy-eight (78) persons who tested positive for COVID-19; however, seventy-two (72) persons have recovered; bringing the total active cases to three hundred twenty (320). The total number of confirmed cases is now three thousand four hundred seventy-two (3472). It is important to note that today’s statistics reflect cases reported from over the weekend and today.
The Collective Prevention Services (CPS) are monitoring three hundred six (306) people in home isolation. Fourteen (14) patients are hospitalized at the St. Maarten Medical Center. The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 has increased to forty-three (43).
The number of people recovered since the first case surfaced on St. Maarten has increased to three thousand one hundred nine (3109). Two hundred eighty six (286) people are in quarantine based on contact tracing investigations carried out by CPS.
The Ministry of Public Health, Social Development, and Labour (VSA) Airport Health Team in collaboration with Health Care Laboratory Sint Maarten (HCLS) have tested 3, 571 travelers arriving at the Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA), while CPS tested 37, 841 people throughout the community. As the numbers continue to fluctuate, CPS will continue to actively execute its contact tracing measures.
Minister Ottley encourages persons who are experiencing signs and symptoms of COVID-19 to come forward for testing.
