PHILIPSBURG:--- The Honorable Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs, on behalf of the Council of Ministers, invites the people of Sint Maarten to take part in the Virtual Commemoration of Constitution Day 2021 under the theme “Building the Nation, Investing in our Future”, on October 11th, 2021 at 10:00 am via SXMGOV Facebook & YouTube pages.
The Department of Culture has been charged with organizing the activities for the celebration of Constitution Day 2021. Initially, this celebration was slated to be a live event but plans were amended due to the increased COVID-19 active cases, thus this year’s ceremony will take place by means of a pre-recorded virtual event.
With a focus on “Building the Nation, Investing in our Future,” emphasis is placed on fostering inclusion and consistency through collaboration with our school-going community. The virtual commemoration of Constitution Day 2021 will feature musical performances and educational presentations by a number of primary and secondary schools on St. Maarten. Creating a strong foundation and instilling a long-lasting sense of national pride, loyalty, love, and reverence for the country begins with our youth as the foundation and extends throughout the community.
Integrated within the virtual program will also be National Addresses by his Excellency Governor drs. Eugene Holiday, Honorable President of Parliament Rolando Brison, Honorable Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs, and Honorable Minister of Education Culture Youth and Sport drs. Rodolphe Samuel.
October 10th, 2021 marks the 11th Anniversary of St. Maarten becoming a Constituent Country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands (10-10-10) and thereby gaining autonomous status and becoming an equal partner with Aruba, Curaçao, and the Netherlands including Bonaire, St. Eustatius, and Saba, within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. By law, the annual official celebration of 10-10-10 as it is commonly known is the second Monday in the month of October.
