Minister of VROMI Doran commemorates Street Light Project 2021 with over two dozen installations.

doranpompier28102021PHILIPSBURG:---  The Minister of Public Housing, Environment, Spatial Planning, and Infrastructure (Ministry of VROMI) Hon. Egbert J. Doran is pleased that some streets in Dutch Quarter, Madame Estate, and Sucker Garden were illuminated for the first time in history, as part of the 2021 Street Light Project.
During his inspection of the installation of the streetlights in the Dutch Quarter, the Minister stated that neglected areas and areas that are sensitive to crime and road danger due to utter darkness, are focal in this project.
The Minister and his support staff explored the newly illuminated streets including Tokyo Drive, Tunts Drive, Tripoli Drive, Nairobi Drive, Copenhagen Drive, and Helsinki Drive in Dutch Quarter while being led by N.V. G.E.B.E Linesman, Gilbert Gumbs.
The inspection also included Thanks Giving Cactus Drive and Pin Cushion Cactus Drive in Sucker Garden, all of which previously did not have street lights.
These initiatives were made feasible due to a recently ratified quadrennial management agreement between the Ministry of VROMI and N.V. G.E.B.E., which commenced in January of this year.
The management agreement accommodates a maximum of 400 8- and 6-meter LED poles for main and secondary roads. This management agreement tasks N.V. G.E.B.E. with the responsibility of street light installations, maintenance, replacement, and repairs to ensure the efficacy of the project goals.
The agreement further stipulates timely response to third-party damage or natural compromise, ultimately limiting future neighborhood and traffic safety interruptions in the event of an incident.
