Sint Maarten Lions Club delivers 100 bags of food items as part of District 60b Food Distribution Program.

lionsclub04032022PHILIPSBURG:--- Last Saturday, February 26th, every Lions and Leo Club in the Caribbean Sub-District of 60B participated in a District Feeding Project Day under the theme “Have a Heart - Feed those in Need,” an initiative of District Governor 60B Lion Claudio Buncamper, PMJF.

This Project was implemented to bridge the gap between persons facing food insecurity and the economic access to healthy, nutritious food which is fundamental to human existence.
Recognizing that the attainment of food security can be influenced by factors ranging from unemployment to sickness to natural disasters, Lions Clubs International has declared Hunger and Homelessness as one of the Organization’s five Global Causes.

Lions and Leo Clubs have committed to implementing Projects which target hunger awareness and hunger prevention on a local, regional and global level.

In expressing his gratitude to the District, District Governor Lion Claudio Buncamper, PMJF commented: “I am extremely happy about the overwhelmingly positive reports from all the Clubs in the District on this Feeding Project Day. The Covid pandemic has made hunger and food insecurity an even bigger issue throughout the Caribbean islands and our Lions and Leos continue to unite our service around this area of need in their communities.”

The Sint Maarten Lions Club together with the Sint Maarten Alpha Leo and Omega South Leo Clubs donated 100 grocery bags containing food items and hygienic products to multiple households. The grocery bags were delivered to various individuals, including a 103-year-old pensioner and members of the St. Maarten Alzheimer’s Association, the Down Syndrome Association of St. Maarten, The UJIMA Foundation, and the Nanny Nurse Foundation.

The President of the Sint Maarten Lions Club, Lion Linette A. Gibs remarked:
“It was a great honor to provide persons with the bags of groceries as there is definitely a need for food distribution programs such as this on our island.” She continued: “I was really touched while delivering these grocery bags because every recipient was genuinely appreciative of the food items.”

The Sint Maarten Lions and Leos Clubs also treated 15 children from the New Start for Children Foundation and their caretakers to a healthy lunch at the Den Civic Centre. The members cooked and served a variety of warm, delicious meals and provided musical entertainment and games for the children. In a brief message presented by Alpha Leo Club Advisor, Lion Roxanne Bloomfield, the children ranging from ages 7 to 15 years were motivated to be the “best individual that you can be” in life.

The Sint Maarten Lions Club thanks Divico for their contribution to this Project and remains dedicated to serving our community from the heart with acts of kindness.
