~ New number & free phone service to start a new life after leaving abuse ~
PHILIPSBURG:---Telecom provider Flow has pledged its support to the victims of domestic abuse by helping them to start a new chapter of their lives with a clean slate after leaving a situation of abuse. The operator pledges to assist new residents at the shelter of the Safe Haven Foundation, where women take up temporary residence after leaving an abusive living situation. Flow and Safe Haven Foundation make this announcement on International Women's Day (IWD), celebrated yearly on March 8th. This year's theme for IWD is centered around breaking the bias that perpetuates gender inequality, to create a level playing field for women.
“Any action, be it big or small, conscious or unconscious can perpetuate gender inequality. However, in the same way, we can make a conscious decision to break the cycle with consistent efforts to do right by each person, regardless of gender,” says Rauf Engels, Director of Flow Eastern Caribbean. “Individually, we're all responsible for our thoughts and actions and we all have a part to play in breaking the bias that exists in our communities, our workplaces, our schools, and everywhere else. We embark on this new partnership with Safe Haven Foundation because we believe in taking action together to effect change for our island.”
The new residents of Safe Haven Foundations’ shelter will be offered the complimentary use of a Chippie Hybrid Mobile plan; providing them with mobile data and unlimited minutes to take care of the critical communications needed when starting life over.
Vanessa Fraser, Director of Safe Haven Foundation comments: "Domestic violence is a problem arising from multiple causes and there are many components that must be considered in our plight as a society to provide those most vulnerable a life free of violence. It begins with all of us, men and women, coming together and coordinating our interactions. We must leverage networks with the purpose to #BreakTheBias, smash stereotypes, break inequality, and reject discrimination. The partnership with Flow allows Safe Haven to follow through in accomplishing its mission".
“The decision to leave domestic abuse behind is a brave step toward a better life. It means exercising your right to choose the life you deserve for yourself and your family. If Flow can contribute to success after taking such a life-changing decision, we’ll gladly step up to assist.” adds Engels.
