PHILIPSBURG:--- Hundreds of volunteers are needed for SXM DOET 2022, happening this Friday and Saturday. Over 90 community projects are scheduled on March 11 & 12, to be completed at various locations throughout the island. Projects include repainting of daycares, fixing playgrounds, beach cleanups, building benches and school tables, fun days out with varying vulnerable groups, putting food boxes together, and much more.
“Participating with SXM DOET is a fun and easy way to give back to your community. Due to the wide variety of projects, you can easily find a task fit for you. By volunteering just a few hours this Friday and/or Saturday, you will be helping to make a big difference!” shared the SXM DOET organizers.
Via the website, www.sxmdoet.com, interested volunteers can register for a project. To help select their project of choice, volunteers can find a short description of the various available projects, date & time, and contact information of the project organizers. Once interested, all one has to do is click on ‘join project’, the rest of the information will be provided to them via the respective organizations.
SXM DOET, now in its 8th year, and as usual, is expecting hundreds of volunteers to take part. The annual event is organized locally by the Be The Change Foundation, in close cooperation with the Oranje Fonds, in the Netherlands. Local editions of the event also take place in the Netherlands and in our sibling islands of Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, St. Eustatius, and Saba.
The aim of the Kingdom-wide campaign is to encourage and promote the act of volunteering for non-profit and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that work so selflessly for their communities by assisting them to get small odd jobs accomplished that might otherwise get forgotten. While there are many people who volunteer their time on a frequent basis, there are others who also wish to give back, but between professional and family life, cannot often find the time to do so. SXM DOET, being a two-day event, makes it possible for people to schedule in just one or two days to volunteer at a project that suits their preferences.
