MARIGOT:--- The Collectivity of Saint-Martin would like to provide details on the procedures for registration on the electoral list and the legislation on the removal of voters.
Since the establishment of the single electoral register (REU) throughout France, it is no longer possible for a voter to register on several electoral lists at the same time. This unique directory allows the continuous updating of the electoral rolls at the initiative of either the municipalities (and communities) which carry out the registration and removal of voters or the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) on the basis of information transmitted by various administrations (justice, interior, foreign affairs, etc.).
Since the 2019 European elections, INSEE has been reporting double registrations to the Collectivity and sending a letter to the people concerned to inform them of the risk of radiation and the urgent need to regularize their situation. The Collectivity, when it has their telephone or electronic contact details, contacts these people to invite them to regularize their situation as soon as possible. When the person does not appear despite reminder letters, they are automatically removed from the electoral list. People are also deregistered when they register on another list or when they have taken their census in another department.
Several people, therefore, noted their removal during this 2022 territorial election. The objective of the Collectivity is of course to help them re-register on the Saint-Martin list, as soon as possible.
To be able to vote on Sunday, March 27, those concerned are invited to quickly go to the Elections department, with their identity document, to withdraw a certificate of omission, and to make the procedure with the judge before the 2nd round of the elections.
As a reminder: voting is a civic act. It is important to specify that it is up to each voter to check for themselves whether they are registered on the electoral list, and this, well before the election phases.
To check their registration, simply go to www.service-public.fr or approach the Saint-Martin Elections Office – Public reception from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. - rue de Hollande Former Evelyna building Halley (bus station) in Marigot – Tel: 0590 29 59 20.
To ensure that they receive the mail and electoral documents before each ballot, each citizen registered on the electoral list must check the postal address attached to their name. People who have been registered for several years must be extra vigilant and check their situation to avoid any irregularities on polling day.

The Single Electoral Register (REU) was established by Law No. 2016-1048 of August 1, 2016, and set up by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) under the aegis of the Ministry of Interior between 2016 and 2019. The single electoral register has made it possible to merge the electoral lists in which the 47 million voters throughout France are registered. The purpose of the REU is to manage the electoral process and ensure the reliability of the electoral lists.
If you are not registered on the electoral list of your town hall even though you have submitted your application in time, or if you have been removed from the electoral list of your municipality, recourse exists. These remedies differ depending on whether or not you have received a letter telling you that your request has been refused or that you have been deregistered. The judge of the district court, directly seized (judicial court of Saint-Martin) has jurisdiction to rule until the day of the election on the complaints of people who claim to have been omitted from the electoral lists as a result of a purely material error. or have been removed from these lists without observing the formalities prescribed by Articles L. 23 and L. 25 of the Electoral Code.
