PHILIPSBURG:--- Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs confirmed on Wednesday that the Council of Ministers held a meeting with the Supervisory Board of Directors of NV GEBE to discuss the company’s way forward since the ransomware attack.
Jacobs said that a report was submitted to the government however due to the sensitivity of the issues much details cannot be shared with the general public. NV GEBE was attacked over a month ago and to date, the company has not reopened its door to conduct its daily business. Information from NV GEBE has not been easily forthcoming even on how their customers should move forward.
Jacobs said that an investigation into the attack is still ongoing and that 85% of the company’s data has been secured. The secured information she said is from the administrative side of the company.
About the meeting held with the Ministers was to be able to get NV GEBE to reopen its doors so that consumers can pay their bills cash while those that have online banking could pay their bills online.
Asked who exactly is making decisions for the company knowing there is no management team at the company. Jacobs said that the temporary manager is the one taking decisions with the guidance of the supervisory board of directors, this she said will continue until the appointment of the management team is finalized.
Asked who from NV GEBE will be held responsible for leaving the company venerable to attackers despite the FBI warning on the black byte ransomware. Jacobs said the investigation is still ongoing and as such, no decision has been taken as to who exactly will be held responsible.
The Prime Minister said that government did follow up with all of its government-owned companies to ensure that the necessary steps are taken to keep these companies safe and updated.
