Irregularities at Receivers Office being investigated, Civil Servant suspended. (UPDATED)

~ Close to $100.00. missing, National Detectives investigated.~

PHILIPSBURG--A Civil Servant at the Government of St. Maarten Receivers Office has been suspended without pay after officials noticed that a large amount of cash was missing earlier this week. Sources say that about $100,000.00 went missing and the long-time civil servant has since been admitted.

According to a reliable source close to the investigation, the civil servant confessed to taking the undisclosed amount of cash from the daily intake at the Receiver's located inside the Government Administration Building in Philipsburg. Minister of Finance Ardwell Irion was not pleased to hear about the incident and ordered a full investigation, a report was filed with the National Detectives, which has since sparked a full-fledged investigation.

The Minister made a brief remark about the investigation during the weekly Live Council of Ministers Press briefing on Wednesday by stating that there are some Irregularities at the Receivers Office and he is aware of the situation and it's being looked into. No word yet on who the civil servant is but the culprit has been suspended until further notice without pay. More information to follow.
